Minimally invasive laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is associated with improved outcomes compared with open surgery in patients with refractory epilepsy, a new analysis suggests.
“Surgery for medical refractory epilepsy is an underutilized treatment modality, despite its efficacy,” according to Dr Varun Kumar and colleagues at the University of South Florida in Tampa, USA.
“LITT, which is minimally invasive, is increasingly being utilized for a variety of brain lesions and offers comparable seizure outcomes.”
