AI identifies muscle MRI patterns linked to specific neuromuscular disorders

Artificial intelligence (AI) trained to detect patterns in muscle MRI images may aid in the diagnosis of different neuromuscular disorders, according to researchers at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.

According to the researchers, data obtained from muscle MRI complements genetic testing results by providing information on the pattern and severity of muscle involvement.

Currently, however, the level of knowledge required to analyze muscle MRI images and apply them in the differential diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders limit its use to a few specialist centers.
